Move your body

Just a little something I shared to The Crazy Crowd Facebook Group today:

A year or so ago I pulled my shoulder out by simply trying to reach around and wash my back in the shower (LOL I know!). The pain never went away, and I’m too stubborn to seek help to fix it, so I just slept on my other side every night.

My sometimes flatmate Gina said to me (whilst I was sitting on the couch playing games like I always do) “you just have to move your body”. Of-course I stubbornly negated her advice.

It’s not that I’m thick, it’s that I’m stubborn. Years ago when I was in a really bad place my therapist said “Justin, you just need to get more sun”, and at the time I thought she was a fucking clueless idiot.

Fast forward to now; I’ve gotten back on the bike, and whilst initially I came up with every excuse to not ride; I’m now so obsessed with riding that I get anxiety when I don’t.

I’ve had a fair few long lost friends reach out to join me on rides, it’s been awesome. A few weeks ago an old friend joined me on a ride, and opened up about a secret he’d kept from me (and many others) for a long time. He was born with a hole in his heart, had a life saving operation when he was 1yrs old, and has died 10 times! When he says he just enjoys each day as it comes I believe him! Sure as hell puts things into a different perspective.

I’ve spent countless years on the couch, but now my shoulder pain is gone. I’m motivated and I’m… happy?! (wild… I know). Not at all trying to motivate people to get healthy, definitely no intention to make anyone feel guilty for not doing any exercise, but it’s working for me, thought I’d share. :)
