Zen Photowalk #3
The 3rd Zen Photowalk was held today and yet again, it was an awesome day out! The clouds threatened rain but it held out for the whole afernoon. Our group of 20 strong met up at the Botany Bay helipad carpark and we made our way to Cape Banks, our final destination the SS Minmi shipwreck.
My shots from the day above, as usual I did more talking than shooting! Catching up with some familiar faces as well as meeting new ones. Look out for the full feature on Zen soon, in the meantime check out the previous Zen Photowalk features here.

Hike to Bundeena
Our first stop was the Loftus Tram shed. Breaking in was easy as the fence is completely down.
Was pretty damn dark in there, here’s a shot of Cacia using her iPhone to light up her face.
Style, she’s got it. One of a few busses inside (there’s even a double decker in there!).
More photos from this set here: http://www.justinfoxphoto.com/stories#/tram-shed/
Big smiles in the big tow truck outside.
On the way back out and back on the road to the National Park.
We had lunch at Bundeena, and instead of driving through to Wollongong we thought we’d do the hike to check out Wedding Cake Rock. Great to see the locals putting up clearer signage for all!
Cacia Zoo, Animal of Indulgence.
When we got to the rock there was a huge group of crazy loud Asian kids. They soon left though, leaving us with peace and Zen.
So powerful when you just sit on the edge like this!
Sat there for a good hour talking shit with Cacia, nervousness subsided after a while, was amazing!
We started our walk at 3pm, which is pretty late. The sun was already setting by the time we got to the rock.
Then it started to get dark, fast!
We made it back to the car just as it got pitch black. Perfect timing!

New set of Bridgestone RE003’s for MKVR32
I’m going to miss the square sidewall/profile of the R-S3’s. The look tougher than the RE003’s, but hey I’m not going to miss those tribal flames!!! Truth is, these lasted WAY longer than they were meant to. 2 years of daily driving (down to the canvas almost on the inside!).
RE003’s on, you can compare how they look to the picture above. Quite an aggressive square profile for a street tyre but not as tough looking in the same specs as the R-S3 (the R-S3’s being more of a hybrid between semi slicks and street tyres).
All fitted. My initial impression was damn… not as tough looking as the R-S3’s! But driving on them OMFG. They’re SO smooth. Super quiet and they roll so smooth (my R-S3’s were really totally gone and felt bumpy and unbalanced). I was in traffic for most of the way home, so didn’t get to bed them in nice, but then it rained, and yeah! That confidence in the rain has come back (I’ve been driving on worn out R-S3’s for so long, pussy footing through corners in fear of wild understeer which is what I was getting when pushing it).
It’s so good to be on street tyres again for a change! I’ve definitely made my mind up on tyres which are half street half semi slick, and that is it’s just a waste of time. If you’re going to go to the track but some semi slicks in order to get really goods times and feel that amazing sticky grip, full stop! IE: Don’t buy something in between that will not be as fast on the track, but be noisier on the street and also wear faster on the street (and not be as great in the wet). Will report again one more time on these tyres later on, but I can already tell the love affair has begun.

JDM Style Plates for myPlates.com.au
A little while back myPlates asked me to design some JDM inspired plate designs. These are the results, and most of the community is voting for design “B” which makes me happy as that’s the plate design I wanted passed.
I’ve had a few die-hard JDM fans critique the design though, suggesting it needs to be EXACTLY like plates in Japan in order for it to work. What these guys don’t realise is that I’ve had to work within very strict confines. IE: I can’t just print anywhere on a plate. There’s a strict grid of where content can go, where the numbers and letter have to go, etc. I also can’t use the Japanese font for letters and numbers as the letters and numbers on all plates in NSW have to pass number recognition technology (speed cameras and the like). Having said all that, with the huge amount of people voting for design “B” I’m sure I can push a little to have it as close as possible to the Japanese plate design. We’ll see!

Pole shoot with Carmen
Today I shot with Carmen, who’s been a friend for a long time.
I first met her through the JDMST forums. Back then she was always into taking silly selfies, and photos of herself with cars. It’s funny when you know of someone over so many years you see them go through all sorts of different hobbies, and paths in life. She became a crazy cat lady at some point (she donated cat toys which her cat didn’t play with to Mia haha!), and she also got into aquariums (I pretty much gave her my whole set-up when I shut my marine tank down before starting Zen Garage).
Quite a few years ago she got into pole dancing and now she’s teaching pole. I spent a little time with her in her studio doing warm ups, some pole dancing and warm downs. Check out the photoset here: http://www.justinfoxphoto.com/stories#/carmen-1/

Shoot #3 with Cara
Spent a couple of hours with this wild child just before my Easter Break. No pants are the best pants? Gotta love someone who’s comfortable in their birthday suit!

Impromptu shoot with Tash
Yesterday I had an impromptu shoot with Tash, a gorgeous girl I’m meant to be shooting at the end of this month. She just happened to be staying at Lake Macquarie this Easter Break so we thought we’d try and get together to shoot.
Tash had a friend do her makeup, it was a little over the top for the chill Easter Break look I had in mind, add to that the harsh midday light with a bitey sun directly above us, no reflectors, no lens filters or hood… I was in for a challenge!!!
It turns out that Tash’s heavy makeup worked OK with the harsh light I had to deal with. I chose a particularly clean white jetty 3 down from our own so that the white paint from the jetty would reflect light back at Tash’s face. We also shot at a small park at the end of the street, and also at the Eleebana shared bicycle/walkway.
She’s a great gal, and I’m looking forward to shooting with her again later this month. For now, you can check out the shots we took yesterday here: http://www.justinfoxphoto.com/girls#/tash/

Eleebana Lake Macquarie Fishing Trip – Day 6
Zi, first up and so committed. One last cast! Seriously though, that monster flathead he pulled up a few days ago just takes the cake.
Today we’re packing up, cleaning up and heading home. It’s been an awesome Easter Break. Colin and Mei have gone next level with their food, and have fed us amazing dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner every single day. The weather was up and down, but it didn’t stop So How Crew from catching fish and squid to eat, and whilst the house wasn’t as amazing as baller house (which has ruined us, really), it still provided great fishing, and a place for us to catch up, talk shit, eat, drink and have lots of laughs. Till next year!

Eleebana Lake Macquarie Fishing Trip – Day 5
Morning ritual. A great coffee and brekkie surprise; today we had ricotta pancakes!
Sun was up! So How Crew didn’t even bother with the boats today. All rods in and the guys pulled up a couple of legal sized brim and another flatty!
Zi’s amazing tempura using freshly caught flathead, brim and squid with Sapporo beer batter!
Then for our last dinner Colin and Mei served up Hiyashi chūka, a Japanese dish of chilled ramen noodles with various toppings, so healthy, so good!
