RIP Takashi Amano of ADA (Aqua Design Amano). A man who has single handedly changed aquarium aquascaping, design and culture forever.

I feel that the word “inspired” doesn’t even come close to how this master designer has influenced me over the years. Every time I’m in nature I see things the way he’s inspired me to see things.

A shoulder to cry on

star_morning1

star_morning2

I talk a LOT, but apparently I’m a decent shoulder to cry on too. I much prefer kicking someone in the ass when they need it as opposed to sympathising, but over the years I’ve found myself not being so quick to find solutions, and instead, I’m finding myself listening that little bit more and I’ve been feeling pretty good about it.

I’ve got a friend staying with me at the moment, she’s broken and going through some pretty serious issues. I’ve been nursing her like a bird that’s fallen out of it’s nest. Sounds cheesy, but it’s how I’ve been looking at it. It’s been emotionally draining being a shoulder to cry on (but obviously more intense for her than it is for me!), but it’s been real, deep and super rewarding in many ways.

I’ve been listening so much more, and instead of trying to use my brain to come up with solutions, I’ve just been much more patient, wallowing at the bottom with her, taking it all in, bringing home lots of junk food, smoking and drinking lots and just generally letting it all take it’s course. Happy to say she got better every day, cried less and less and today I dropped her off home.

KO’d!

ko
KO’d!

Cacia’s main reason for flying to Sydney was for her best friend’s wedding, which was last night. As expected, she partied up, hard! So hard that she’s been ill all day (exorcist style, poor thing!). So, here’s a shot of the girls, KO’d!

Monday Fundays

hunter-st-laksa
First stop, Malay-Chinese Takeaway on Hunter St. for a bowl of arguably the best Laksa in Sydney.

laksa
SO good. I’m allergic to chilli (I sweat profusely when having even the slightest amount), but I can eat this no worries!

gear
I then did a HUGE shop for winter wear (all will be revealed soon!). I finally got myself some SUPRA Skytops! I’ve wanted a pair for so many years! We went to The North Face flagship store to buy a jacket but they literally had nothing at all in stock in my size. Not one single jacket, thermal wear, NOTHING! So lame as I’ve wanted a plain North Face jacket for as long as I could remember.

jupiter-ascending-premiere
Later that night we checked out the Australian premiere of Jupiter Ascending (by the Wachowski Brothers) at the IMAX!

popcorn
Free popcorn and drinks!

cheeseburger
Not wanting to eat a heavy meal, but a bit peckish, we downed cheeseburgers at McDonalds. Jess modified her cheeseburger by asking for it on a steamed bun and damn, so good!

matcha
Then matcha from Chanoma Cafe, so awesome.

Spent Monday Funday buying a shitload of gear for extremely cold weather. Can’t say anything right now, but all will be revealed soon enough! Later tonight we checked out the Australian Premiere of Jupiter Ascending at the IMAX. Was cool to score tickets to this! Won’t give out any spoilers as it’s not out for a couple more days yet, but it’s a wild ride that’s for sure.

I love goodies in the mail!

Got this nice care package in the mail this morning from Pretty Shady, an initiative which aims to inspire young Australians to be part of the generation that stops skin cancer, one summer at a time.

So I missed BANKS tonight, but my bestie Jess is in town and she got me a ticket to see (experience!) FKA TWIGS. F U C K . W O W . What a sexual monster. Massive presence. The way she moves and loses herself on stage is almost otherworldly. So good!

More LYNXPERX

lynx_hair_products_packaging
Came home from Luddenham and this metal box was at my doorstep.

lynx_hair_products_mia
Mia, having a good sniff!

lynx_hair_products
Enough hair goods to last me a year, easy!

A few posts down I mentioned getting a lovely care package from LYNX. Today I came home to another package. The goods once again came in next level packaging, last time there were 2 wooden boxes, this time around the goods came in a very impressive metal box which unfolded to reveal hair products, which I totally intend to use!

Finished off with a great pub meal at The Historic Como Hotel.

como
Lovely place, shame about all the power lines!

Celebrated Eddie’s B’Day with Clay Shooting yesterday. Have never shot a gun before (was inevitable, right?!), was mad fun. I loved it!

I got there a little early, and walking around the car park seeing so many guys with guns out just felt so surreal. Seeing guns on picnic tables, guns everywhere! Shooting and hitting targets was actually easier than I thought it would be (I was prepared to not hit a thing!). Recoil wasn’t bad at all (was worse in my mind), though it was funny watching it catch a few people off guard! Ejecting shells is mad! Smells so good too! Highly recommend it for anyone who’s never had a go, we all paid around $100/head and they use competition bullets made in Italy, considering they’re about $1.50/$2/bullet and you get 40 or so shots, that’s great value!

Haircut at Shinka

tomo_haircut
The mullet was back, in full force, so I had to book in somewhere to get my haircut. Previously only Mimi at DJ’s cut my hair (I cut my own hair, and she’s the first hairdresser to cut it since I was 15 or so!). Mimi’s in Japan though, so Nanami put me on to her personal hairdresser, Tomo at Shinka in the Galleries. Tomo was awesome, the venue’s light and bright and damn that head massage! Highly recommend!
