Mishka Keep Watch eyeball rug

I just bought this Keep Watch eyeball rug from Mishka. It’ll live in my lounge room. $50 and shipping was peanuts too. It’s so ugly, and massive! I love it haha.

SIT- Noir Nr.14

Early last month I bought Nanami a SIT print, happy to say it’s now back from the framers, still wrapped in plastic, but once that’s off she’s ready to get on the wall!

The future is here… kind of

iRobot Roomba.

I’ve kept my eye on these robot vacuum cleaners for a while now and I felt that I had waited long enough for revisions and refinements. This device not only makes pretty sounds, it talks to me (with a sexy female voice) and best of all it returns to it’s base for charging (something the Sony robot dog should have done in my opinion!).

BBQ @ Zigaya

Zi’s flat faced cats, a bit strange in pictures but so so cute in real life!

Gloria’s away and Zi wasn’t too impressed with the dinner he organised a few weeks back for Steve’s B’day at Rengaya so he decided to invite us all to his new apartment in Hurstville for a BBQ (Zigaya!).

I’ve known Zi for a while now, he’s a best mate but I’ve never stepped foot in his place before, ever, so last night was a real treat. I’ve eaten his food from even before I met him as he used to be the cook at a Japanese restaurant down the road from me many years ago. Last night I brought that up and he mentioned that he remembers me from coming into the restaurant to get take-out (I never saw him as he was out the back in the kitchen I assume), funny!

Zi cooked up a tasty feast and had more than enough food to feed all the boys (and girls too). As always when hanging out with all the ex-auto salon guys you’re going to piss yourself laughing as they pay out on each other (I was literally in tears more than a few times).

PS: F1 qualifying was on last night and I hung around to watch Webber get pole position for tonight’s race. I then had to excuse myself to go home and watch the Tour de France where Cadel Evans smashed the opposition. The first Australian to ever win the Tour (which has been held for over 100 years). National pride. I’m emotional!

27 square metres – Sean’s new space

My old buddy Sean invited me over to his place last night for a long overdue catchup. He’s lived in an apartment at Broadway for quite a few years now a while back he mentioned that he planned to re-invent the space. I was thinking new furniture, artwork on the walls perhaps… but as soon as I stepped into his apartment I found I was in an art gallery!

Sean’s current flatmate is Sokquon Tran, a landscape artist who’s mentoring him at the moment. Sokquon’s pretty good with his hands and he’s built a wall structure that covers the entire kitchen, benches surrounding what was the lounge room as well as an outdoor area to match. The idea is to have small private invite only opening nights, music, wine, nibbles, art talk.

Despite not having any art on the walls yet there was already wine and conversation flowing. I think the concept is brilliant. I’ve never felt like smaller galleries worked well post opening nights. I always assumed that a show would have little or no visitors during the week (dead) or so after opening night, but this negates that. An invite list prevents dealing with blow-ins from the street looking for free booze and having a gallery in such an intimate and comfortable setting works well socially.

Sean’s busy working on a web site for his new space. I’ll be sure to report back with a URL as soon as it’s up!
