Obsessed!
I’ve been doing absolutely nothing but playing Destiny 2 The Witch Queen since last Wednesday. Bungie has truly hit it out of the park this time!

2 more sleeps!
So prepped and psyched for Destiny 2’s next expansion THE WITCH QUEEN which drops this Wednesday (for all of those living in Australia).
Oh noes here we goes.
Despite being a retired graphic designer, last week I got going on a new graphic design job to help a mate out. The week started out great! I was happy, client/mate was happy, then client sent my work to his marketing agency for feedback (design by committee) and that’s when shit started to fall apart.
I rant about Destiny 2, as that’s pretty much all I’ve been doin’ lately!
With over 2,500 hours into Destiny 2 you’d think I’d be OK at the game, but truth is I’ve mostly been avoiding the hardest PVE content in the game being Raids and Grandmaster Nightfall Strikes.
Grandmasters arguably require more refined builds and team coordination than any other activity in the game, and Bungie believes that “completion should be the primary metric for success, rather than score or time or another in-activity metric”.
I only needed to do one more Grandmaster for the title and this week’s Grandmaster happened to be “The Corrupted” which is considered to be one of the hardest Grandmasters in the game. This morning I created a random LFG group with 2 guys I’ve never played with, we had no comms (not even chat!) but we got it done first go!
I’ve completed a few Grandmasters since their introduction in 2021, but never earned the Conqueror title (which you get for completing triumphs like using all elements in a Grandmaster and completing 6 different Grandmasters). In going for the title I ended up rage quitting for almost a year (!), but this season I’ve finally got it and yes… it feels fucking good, man!
Been gaming… LOTS!
In this Monday Morning Rant I explain why I choose to play Destiny 2 on PC with a controller over mouse and keyboard.
I enjoyed my time going through the free trial and 2 main scenario quests of Final Fantasy XIV but I’ve decided that I don’t love the game enough to pay for a subscription (that said I’m really happy that so many gamers love FFXIV though, and I subscribe to a fair few FFXIV content creators on YouTube as I enjoy the good vibes).
Not having the one game which I can call “home” feels a little unusual to me as I’ve really come to love “games as service” games where I’m constantly progressing as the developers are forever releasing new content, but the more I think about not being dedicated to the one game, the more I like it.
I grew up playing consoles and each console I owned came with a variety of games. The idea of not putting all my eggs in the one basket and playing more different games as opposed to just playing the one game might feel like I’m going backwards, but maybe it’s more about finding my roots?
I’m currently playing through DC Universe Online (DCUO) and despite the very dated graphics (released in 2011) I’m having a good time! Either way I look at it; I’ve hit a ceiling with Black Desert Online. New World was fun to begin with, but I feel it needs more refinement and I’m definitely not ready to go back to the grindy and repetitive nature of Destiny 2.
