mum
Teeee hee hehehe. Happy B’Day Mum! X

Celebrated Mum’s B’Day today (Australia Day every year, albeit one day earlier this year). We’ve not done the hotel/buffet thing in ages. We tried out the re-vamped InterContinental at Double Bay. Not amazing, not terrible either, it is what it is. I actually enjoyed just being at a hotel buffet haha! I love hotel buffets, especially breakfast!

Manpuku

manpuku
Hai!

Was a hot day today, went for a dip at the rock pool with Kimmy and so I was ravenous when I jumped out (like some sort of primal instinct I’m always hungry after a swim!). Despite the heat we went for ramen at Manpuku as I’d been craving ramen for a while. Damn those wavy noodles and that broth, so complex, so good!

Tokyo Bike + Paramount Coffee Project

tokyobike
I’ve been meaning to check out Tokyo Bike ever since they opened up in Darlinghurst, this shop in Surry Hills being their 2nd store.

tokyobike2
Hipster goods everywhere.

tokyobike_brooks
Can’t go wrong with Brooks gear.

waffle
Also finally tried Paramount Coffee Project. I went for the friend chicken/Japanese curry waffle. Waffle was good, curry wasn’t the best Japanese curry I’ve had (expected, really?!).

bun
Nanami went for the steamed pork belly bun with apple slaw.

Finally checked out what the hype was all about. So many hipsters in the building I felt uncool. I went for the fizzy cold brew at Paramount and liked it, very subtle coffee aftertaste but the guys at Brewrista’s in Glebe still have my vote!

Midnight Laksa and a Flying Fish

fish
Reminds me of a dream, where my Arowana was swimming in the up in the corner of my bedroom. Radio controlled fish. A plus of living with a flatmate who’s also into toys!

laksa
Another plus, when his girlfriend makes you a bowl of delicious Laksa when you get up and stroll into the kitchen at midnight.

LOL at all the sheeple in the city for Boxing Day Sales. Ved and I decided to make the most of our empty roads (was a ghost town! SO GOOD!) with a little cruise in Wolfy, the MK1 GTI, to Botany Bay for some Calamari and Chips!

Hotel Harry

hotelharry
From the outside. I’d forgotten what the old pub that was there before looked like… have definitely never ever walked in there before though.

inside
Really inviting decor inside. Fake patina, but done really nicely.

smoker
The smoker!!!

pig
The pig says it all.

condements
The Caribbean theme is carried throughout the entire building. For drinks; Nanami went with the Paloma tequila cocktail. I had a glass of a robust red from Chile.

ribs
Couldn’t resist ordering the apple roasted pork neck riblets. They came with a special BBQ sauce in a medicine bottle, but the robs were so damn tasty they really didn’t need the (amazing) extra sauce. The flat bread was next level! I’d go back just for the bread!

fishtacos
Fish Tacos, the best both of us have ever had.

The 100yr old Macquarie Hotel on the corner of Goulburn Street and Wentworth Avenue in Surry Hills has reopened with a Caribbean makeover with chef, Paul Wilson (Icebergs, Bar de Thé and Salon de Thé), consulting on the menu with a Latin theme. Wood-smoked barbacoa, slow cooking Australian heritage and sustainable meats in Latin spices over aromatic woods.

Nanami and I checked it out today and we weren’t disappointed! The venue’s awesome, upstairs as well as downstairs. They’ve done a great job theming the interior, it’s so cool in there I’d want to hire it out for my 40th next year! The food was amazing and I can’t wait to go back and try everything else on the menu with a bigger group of friends.

Brewristas

alainsmiling
Had a mandate (lol) with Alain yesterday, we checked out Brewristas, Kevin’s amazing new Coffee shop in Glebe.

brewristascoffee_sign
The shop is right across the road from the markets, what a mad location! Leafy, lovely. Inside it’s still a WIP but already, the vibe is amazing. It’s quite spacious inside with 3 distinct spaces (we went for the courtyard out the back!), but it’s comfy in there, cozy but interesting, especially with all the hardcore coffee gear sprinkled around the space.

brewristas
Like this siphon. Kevin from Brewristas tells us that coffee and science has always gone hand in hand, in fact, this is similar to how Albert Einstein brewed his coffee and that his method has been refined and improved over time.

brewristas_menu
First stop: The Menu, which tells the Brewrista story well, and was loaded up with so much fancy coffee (and a legit chef in whites making amazing food too!) that we felt lost, luckily all the Brewristas staff are there to educate, and before we knew it we were geed for what was to come.

brewristas_coldbrew
There’s a LOT of coffee on the menu, but these are Brewrista’s 3 babies. Cold Brew, Brewmondae and Brewtea. All 3 are produced by gently dripping filtered water through freshly grounded coffee for 12 long hours resulting in smooth, syrupy & aromatic coffee. Love the health warning labels on the bottles, massive buzz, cold and refreshing, perfect for summer!

alain
Alain dug the Brewtea the most (a perfect fusion of tea and coffee = double caffeine!), the Brewmonade which is fused with homemade lemonade has to be the most interesting of the 3, an acquired taste which will for sure have you craving it before you know it. Personally I loved the Cold Brew, perfection!

kevinsballs
We couldn’t resist Kevin’s Balls (haha). Spicy little balls filled with roasted pork belly, tofu, kimchi, sweet potato, all encrusted with shin ramyun.

brewristas_coffee_station
Out the front the guys are still serving Caps, but the hardcore coffee station where all the special stuff is made is out the back.

brewristas_coffee_kevin
Boss man Kevin left his hardcore coffee station to come chill with us for a bit. 14hr long days but it’s all paying off, he’s onto amazing things with Brewristas. Sydney and coffee might never be the same again.

brewristas_coffee
Cold Brew Station.

Visit: Brewristas 73 Glebe Point Road Glebe – http://www.brewristas.com.au – Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/brewristas

Finally got to drop in to Kevin’s new cafe Brewristas in Glebe yesterday with Alain. It’s next level, it’s going to change coffee culture in Sydney, mark my words!
