YAYOI

nanascreen
Nana working her touch screen ordering system.

mymeal
I went for the salt-grilled mackerel. So so good.

nanafish
So did Nana but hers was presented differently to mine (with skin).

dessert
Mochi!!!

Nanami took me to YAYOI who have opened up at The Galeries (where Kinokuniya is) and it’s awesome! If you love the more fishy stuff you’ll love YAYOI. Super clean food, tummy was so happy post meal!

Brooklyn Boy Bagels

reuben_brookylnboybagels
Reuben on rye complete with McClure’s pickles (yum!) with a side serving of McClure’s spicy chips if you’re really hungry.

brooklynboybagels
But the bagels are where it’s at! A garlic bagel with Bacon Bourbon and Maple cream cheese.

BBB is becoming a bit of a haunt for me as they’re just down the road and their bagels are so good (I’ve got so many more bagels and fillings to try!).

Finally got to drop past Mike’s new Burger & Hip Hop Joint Belfield on Botany earlier today to try out their cheeseburger, and it didn’t disappoint! Love the shop, the feel, the vibe, the crew and the location too as it’s just 10 minutes away from my place!

Mike runs PlusSixOne, a label which we used to stock at Zen Garage. He’s outdone himself with Belfield, such an awesome job!

PS: The burger sat in my tummy so nice. Gotta love clean food (I didn’t suffer from a food coma post meal).

Adobo

spanish
Oyster Bay; Always a reliable drop! Spanish slow cooked dish (I forget the name!).

adobo
And a pork adobo which gave me a ratatouille moment as my Grandma used to make a dish exactly like it when I was growing up.

cake1
Lemon cake.

cake
So tangy! Amazing!

Yesterday I was fed by a woman who’s loved cooking ever since she was 10. I can finally say I’ve had a traditional Philippine Adobo! So delicious!

Brooklyn Boy Bagels

brooklynboybagel_justinfox_zengarage
Great shop front but no signage makes it hard to spot when driving past (I’ve been past the shop so many times recently and never spotted it!).

bagel1
Pastrami reuben with sauerkraut.

bagel2
Corned beef, mustard and pickle on a garlic bagel.

drbrown
We went for both the Dr. Browns. The Celery drink was whack! Black Cherry was all sorts of Sarsaparilla like goodness.

cash
The whole shop is themed so well.

Post shoot with Krysti I finally found Brooklyn Boy Bagels, who have opened up in the old school sleepy suburban suburb of Matraville. Owner Michael Shafran looks and sounds the part, with a thick American accent, he’s somehow managed to bring a bit of Brooklyn to Sydney, and I’m totally stoked about it!

The shop’s a little hard to spot from the street, but it’s decked out real nice with old world American memorabilia and Biggie Smalls, Robert De Niro (as the Taxi Driver) and Banksy-esque artwork on the walls.

Chaco Bar, again!

chaco_bar_ramen
Fish base this time!

gyoza
Gyoza, some of the best I’ve had in recent memory.

yebisu
Yebisu, and I love these glass cups!

Had to go back! This time I tried the fish base ramen, which was subtle and delicious!!! Not overly complex (which is how I like my ramen broth) but it was just so damn satisfying! Gyoza’s were just as awesome as the first time, and had me burping gyoza burps all day and night lol.

Last Night’s BBQ

smoked_ribs
The guys start early in the morning. I usually rock up at around lunch time, the wait until 8pm when stuff finally comes out of the smoker is long and hard but it’s always SO WORTH IT!

ribs2
Sexual!

wings
Wings, drumsticks, pork ribs and pulled pork!

Smoked goodness, every Sunday! The boys are constantly at it, refining their smoking techniques as well as the meat rub. This week we had drum sticks in the smoker which were unbelievable. Salmon too which blew minds!!! Pork was better than ever too.

Manpuku Black

manpuku_black
Manpuku BLACK! Finally ordered something different!

manpuku_thankyou
Their new 2015 menu is out now. They’ve changed their bowls, which I was initially disappointed in, but then at the bottom there was this! Now that’s cool.
