Hopefully in a week from now we’ll have some awesome prizes up for grabs. Twist twist twist!

INfront Black Books

Amazing start to the Black Books from Rebecca Murphy.

We started a small fun project on INfront last week where we bought a few black A5 journals and sent them around to as many Australian studios/individuals as possible to contribute 2 hand drawn pages each and then send it on.

Above is a scan of the first page in one of the 3 books out there, we’re excited! :) Follow INfront on facebook.

Automotive Photography Awards

Narada and I have been wanting to work together for a while now. We’ve done some collab work, but nothing chunky. A week or so ago he sent me a late night SMS. I could tell he was excited! The concept was a motorsport photography awards.

Earlier this week we caught up after the INfront/Vince Frost talk at the Apple Store and we fleshed out the idea over a couple of ciders. In typical fashion I got busy fast once I got up the next morning. Domain name, hosting, wordpress, play, play, and more play and a few days in we’ve got a pretty damn decent start.

Amazingly, based off concept alone we’ve managed to confirm a top shelf world class judging panel consisting of the one and only Darren Heath, F1 photographer extraordinaire. My friend Charles Kha, Editor of Speedhunters, the world’s most hit auto blog. Mark Arcenal, the God and founder of Fatlace/Illest/Hellaflush. Jordan Donnelly, the people’s photographer and Easton Chang, the automotive photographer’s photographer.

Now all we need are a shitload of prizes and hopefully people will enter!

INfront Insight #07 – Vince Frost

Our 7th speaker at the INfront insight Apple Talks is big gun Vince Frost.

Vince on the stage at the Apple Store Sydney.

Our biggest crowd to date.

Vince’s talk was alright but the man at the bar after the talk was amazing!

His talk made me realise I don’t want to be ‘just’ a designer anymore. I’ve not been one in ages in any case. I’ve morphed into something else. Community builder? That just sounds lame. I don’t need to have a nice title, but I’d like one.

Upside down

SIN + ASIA.

Maybe it was all those times I watched Mr Squiggle draw on the blackboard in the morning as a kid. “upside down upside down!”. Negative space, looking at stuff upside down is always more exciting, right? A few weeks back I decided to make a T-Shirt out of the VISA logo upside down (ASIA!). Also the NJS logo upside down (SIN!). Love wearing my own shit :)

Infront Insight #06: Sebastian Chan

Seb.

Inside the store.

A shot from outside. Love the reactions of passers by.

A view from upstairs.

Apple had this leaflet floating around on the tables in the shop advertising our next talk. Vince Frost.

This was INfront’s bar tab at Grasshopper. Wave the tape to magically get food and booze for free.

Grasshopper bar tucked away in a lane behind George St.

A cozy affair inside. Very Melbourne.

On the way out.

Last night we (INfront) put on our 6th Infront Insight events at the Apple Store in Sydney. This time around we got the amazing Sebastian Chan to present for us.

Seb’s the Head of Digital, Social and Emerging Technologies at the Powerhouse Museum. I’ve had the pleasure of working with him in the past (Caryn and I designed the Powerhouse Museum web site years ago, and we’ve done other website work for them since) so it was great to catch up with the guy.

Before the talk I Googled “Sebastian Chan” and found lots of images of the guy speaking (he recently did a TEDx talk). It took me 3 pages before I found an image of Seb behind the decks. Yup, rewind back to the mid 90’s and Seb was up on a very different stage. I used to load up on drugs and dance to this guy’s electro music at raves (specifically analog electro, Clan Analogue to be precise).

His talk about “Museums of the Future” was awesome. I had no idea he was doing so much online technology work for the Powerhouse. Some of the stuff he was presenting was mind blowing. Heat maps for what content people are looking at online, even heat maps to track how people walk through an exhibit. It’s all big brother like technology used for good and makes me want to work harder at understanding my own web statistics and using that data to further improve both exposure and user experience.

Afterwards we hit Grasshopper, a bar tucked away in a lane off George St (you would never know it was there) for drinks and some great bar food. We’re about to lose Seb to New York, it’s a big move but he’s a wanted man with a lot to give and I wish him all the best.
