UNSW Photoclub shoots VWGolf.net.au

My GT-R, driving it gets me high, every time – Photo by Rev 555.

Last night VWGolf.net.au members were invited to a photoshoot at the UNSW by the UNSW Photoclub. There was a healthy turnout of both cars and photographers. My GTI was filthy so I planned to just jump in SUGA and take pics, but last minute I decided to take the beast out (and I forgot my camera!). Was a fun meet and a few of us hit up Korean BBQ for dinner afterwards too.

The photos haven’t made their way online just yet but be sure to keep an eye on this thread for updates.

Auto Obsession is officially launched. I designed the logo and the web site too (which I will be running for a while to get the boys going!).

Fratelli Fresh

Christina and I left a package in Nath’s car during Pizza night the other night and he kindly came over today to drop it off. There was another reason why he came over though, he wanted to show this off:

I heard him before he knocked on the door!

Made in Slovenia. It’s an Akrapovic exhaust. I just checked out their site, different!

Nath hadn’t had brekkie and Christina and I hadn’t had lunch so we thought we’d eat at Fratelli Fresh

Strange stuff: They had an entire wall dedicated to Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

Oils ain’t oils!

I had the meatball pasta. OMG too good. TOO GOOD! I’ve been on a high ever since. So so happy. So happy.

VWG Pizza Night

VWG Pizza night last night at Made in Italy. Small group of 9 but a lot of fun :)

Pre-dinner beers at The Gaelic Club.

Frenchie’s R36 wagon. Looking so good.

Wagon Mafia!

Polo pizza was great.

Nutella Pizza!

Nath took us in and AP took us home in his 500HP R32 turbo monster (which was surprisingly smooth).

Melb vs Syd

Sandra and Terence.

Last night Christina and I caught up with Melbournians Terence (we know him through the VWGolf.net.au forums) and his girl Sandra (who was in town doing work experience for Marie Claire). We had dinner at Kelly’s, which is always hit and miss. Unfortunately the food was a miss tonight but the company rocked out so much I wasn’t fussed! So good to meet genuinely good people.

BBQ at JDMyard

Photos from a “just for us” BBQ at JDMyard.

Didn’t take Beau long to be popping 360’s on this thing out on the road!

Andy Lah!

Stevey, late with the nem nuong because he ran out of fuel on his scooter on the way to the BBQ.

The Pakulas.

Mark’s new board (love the big old skool T-Bone like wheels on it).

Howie brought the Porker along. Still the most responsive car I’ve ever driven (yes, memories are now fresh again!).

Dave was manning the BBQ.

Auto Obsession

I’ve been working with the go2space guys (they place advertising on VWGolf.net.au and JDMST) for a while now on a new online project. Auto Obsession (AO). AO is an online shop and my job is to give the shop a front and the brand a face, energy and also to generate a community around it. I’ve skinned the site using the same tweaks I’ve done to this WordPress blog (which is the same as JDMST’s blog) and again I’m calling on the amazing talent of Matthew Mead to make my work come alive (I’m a huge Mead fan!).

It’s not live yet but I thought I’d share the development site in any case!

Chris’ new 135i

Yesterday I caught up with Chris who’s been working in Vanuatu. I hadn’t seen him in ages (a year or more maybe) and I’ve only just caught him as he’s about to leave for Vanuatu again this Friday.

I got a bit of a shock when I went outside and saw his new car. He just picked this up yesterday!

He had the exact same plates on his S2000 so that confused me as the plates were the first detail I saw. I then realised it wasn’t an M3, nor a 335i but a 135i! I then got even more confused: Chris aren’t you living and working in Vanuatu?!

Strange little car. Strange lines on the outside and inside. Car feels very firm and solid though, even at 3000rpm you can feel that it’s a very powerful and fast car. Chris drove it in Auto. The car felt a lot like an automatic, not a clutchless manual. I got Chris to shift down a few gears with his paddle shifters and it didn’t sound like it rev matched (so it might just be a full automatic gearbox?).

Cars aside, the real big news is that Chris and his wife are expecting! He’s excited which in turn made me excited for him!
