I’d just gotten back home from my fishing trip. I was on the couch, TV on, just poured myself a glass of wine and then I hear a “meep meep”! Zen’s resident arty chick Krysti Mclellan had brought over her newly acquired KE55!
Lovingly named “Audrey”, she bought it from a guy on Toymods who had owned it for the last 10 years. Audrey’s a very clean and original 1979 KE55 2 door which has only done 182,700 km’s.
I had to have a blat, and I’m so glad that I did. The first thing that took me by surprise was the gearbox, it’s so tight, direct and even has a notchy sporty feel (great gearknob too). Clutch feel is perfect and surprisingly the brakes are great too.
I was grinning ear to ear the whole drive. “She’s a 4 speed! So cute!”. Ultimately, cruising in Audrey was so fun largely due to the fact that she’s just so easy to drive.
The fuel gauge, heater and the clock doesn’t work. She has A/C but it’s not hooked up. There’s some hail damage and some minor rust appearing on the rear wheel arches. Some of the seats are worn and torn too but it’s not going to take much to bring this little car back to it’s former glory.

Popped my Bathurst Cherry yesterday. I’ve seen Bathurst on TV every year for so many years, and raced in on so many racing games too, but to see it in real life… it was emotional!
PS: Falling asleep on top of the mountain under the shade of the Zen Stand, with the sounds of screaming exhausts and mates chatting and laughing in the background, pure bliss.
A mate of mine Thomas Chung dropped in to Zen today to give me a gift, this lovely 2014 Roadster Days Calendar which I’ll be proudly displaying in my office.
Better yet, he gave me the keys to his Lotus Elise which I promptly took for a blat around the block!
Yesterday Jess woke me up with an SMS; she was keen to get out of the city and felt like taking her mint 50,000km DC2R out for a blat as (sadly) she’s about to sell it soon.
We hit the Royal National Park and the plan was to visit Berry, a lovely small town in the Shoalhaven region located about 90 minutes outside of Sydney.
There’s always a slow Camry driver out at the RNP!

Yesterday I was invited by Autohaus Hamilton to check out their brand new 2014 Porsche Cup car which was having it’s first shakedown session at Sydney Motorsport Park. I’m still pinching myself this morning. It was such an epic day, and I feel so privileged to have been invited.
