Spotted on Shock Mansion

shockmansion_justinfox

Spotted! 3 of my images on Shock Mansion. No credits, but hey, it’s still nice to see my work get out there (even if it is to a demographic of horny young teens… I don’t mind whether people see my work as art, or tits and ass, really!).

35mm f2.8 Zeiss Sonnar

3555
35mm on the Sony A7s. As you can see, it’s a lot smaller than the 55mm and MUCH lighter but it feels cheaper and more ‘plasticy’ too.

35mm_on
The 35mm comes with a really strange little lens hood/dust protector.

55mm
55mm Zeiss.

35mm
35mm Zeiss shot from the same position. As you can see, the 35mm fits a lot more in!

I’ve heard rumours of a much faster Zeiss lens coming out this year but after wasting a bunch of shots from a previous shoot (where the room was just too tight and the model was just that little bit too tall and nothing fit nicely into frame) I had enough and pulled the trigger on the only native 35mm lens available for the Sony A7s.

I’m looking forward to using it. I doubt the depth of field I love so much will be there (will have to test and see), but shooting in tighter spaces is what this lens is reserved for.

Epic Fail

camerawater
First step of putting the camera in the water was perhaps the most nerve-wracking!

outtake8

outtake9

I got to put the underwater housing to the test yesterday with Sophie. Was SO much harder than I thought it would be! A few things:

1) The unit floats in the water, but even harder in a tiny plunge pool was staying down at the bottom to shoot looking up (I kept floating). I’m tempted to sink the camera to the bottom and just sit outside the pool and shoot remotely with my iPhone. Could work… maybe?!

2) I had the fountain on which in retrospect was a silly idea as it created a lot of bubbles in the water thus reducing image clarity.

3) Plunge pool is just too small, tight, not deep enough.

Will have to give it a better go next time!

Giant Expressway 2

giant_expressway_2_fitting1
First up, fitting!

giant_expressway_2_fitting
Since Nanami’s confidence on the bike is down, she’ll just start with the seat height a little lower than usual.

helmet2
Helmet fitting. As always, anything Nanami buys has to be either black, or white.

helmet1
A few more dollars buys you a much better product. This POC helmet had a similar style to, but was way lighter than the skate helmets.

Happy customer.

giant_expressway_2_folded
Fits in the boot folded, no worries!

Nanami’s owned a mountain bike for as long as I’ve known her. It’s never had a home in her city apartment. Wherever it moves to, it’s always in the way. She’s never once taken it out for a ride as far as I can remember, mainly because it’s too big and heavy to drag up the stairs (she lives on the top floor of her apartment building) and she’s just got not much confidence riding it either.

Quite a few months back she mentioned a folding bike and soon after that Nanami dragged me to a Japanese budget store to check one out. It had wheels the size of a plate, made out of steel and just nasty all round. We dropped in to Giant Sydney and we were both impressed with the folding bike on offer. The whole idea of getting a folding bike died off for a while until today where we went in to close the deal.

Good thing Giant Sydney had the new 2015 Giant Expressway 2 in stock. In comparison to the other rubish bike Nana was looking at a while back this bike has much bigger wheels, wider bars and it’s much easier to ride than the wobbly Strida folding bike I used to own.

Nanami’s happy. I’m happy. Whether she rides it or not she’s winning as getting rid of her old mountain bike will free up apartment space, and if she’s not using this bike it’ll fold up and hide in her wardrobe quite nicely!

Manpuku

manpuku
Hai!

Was a hot day today, went for a dip at the rock pool with Kimmy and so I was ravenous when I jumped out (like some sort of primal instinct I’m always hungry after a swim!). Despite the heat we went for ramen at Manpuku as I’d been craving ramen for a while. Damn those wavy noodles and that broth, so complex, so good!

MKVR32 Update – HID’s

abt_r32
Tight squeeze.

hidson
All done.

One of my HID’s died a few days ago. I run them on every time I drive, mainly for safety reasons. I wasn’t prepared for one of them to blow though (pretty sure the HID’s on my previous S2K would have lasted the lifetime of the car?!). My mechanic Dedy at TOP ONE (was great to drop by, had been a while!) said the OEM bulbs in VW Golfs burn out fast. He had MTEC bulbs ready to go so in they went (they cost me $250 a pair).

Photoshoot with Carmen

Had a great shoot with Filipina graphic design student, promo model and pageant Carmen Baena yesterday, who had only done 3 shoots before, was a little nervous, but heaps of fun (she’s super photogenic I think!). As usual, my direction was a little lacking but I feel that great conversation always makes up for this, and I’m still finding myself taking snaps between poses in order to find the most natural shots.

All the shots up on my folio now: http://www.justinfoxphoto.com/#/carmen/
