Boys & their Toys

Parrot AR.Drone.

This amazing thing is controlled by your iPad. It has cameras all over it, the idea is to watch the ipad to control it, and not watch the actual drone itself (spy camera anyone?!).

It’s amazingly stable in flight. I was crap at controlling it, but Anoop was awesome (hey it’s his toy!).

So awesome!

Aquarium Update

Bleaching acro. :(

It’s that time of year again, heat builds up in the house and water temperature shoots up. It’s not so much an issue except that I keep hard corals, the hardest corals to keep in an aquarium. Just like the barrier reef, when the water heats up too much the corals bleach (die). And last night I came home to a temperature reading of 29.5 degrees and 2 bleached corals, shame as my tank has been doing so well.

Last year I had a huge fan blowing across the surface of the water, it helped pull down the temperature by 2 degrees but it blew up, in flames too. Luckily I was around to hear, smell and then see and put out the flames. I could have lost the whole house!

I won’t be taking the risk this time. If all my hard corals die I’ll just have to admit defeat and I’ll still to easier soft corals (which don’t seem to mind the heat).

Saving the worst for last I also lost my Dori the other day. I’ve had my blue tang since November 2007. They’re not an easy fish to keep so I’ve done well in keeping it so long, but not well enough. Can’t tell what killed it, the temp, lack of food (looked skinny). I won’t be buying a replacement. :(

Pho Pasteur

Long time JDMST Moderator Mike V. was in town last night and a hook-up to have Pho was in order. Pakula know’s his Pho (and food in general). He suggested Pho Pasteur in Bankstown. I was buggered, it was pissing down rain (traffic) but I’ve never been to Pasteur. I love Pho too and I had to eat in any case right so I made the trek.

Pho was good. Thicker/darker soup was tasty and different to Pho An across the road. I was still thirsty by the time I put my head on the pillow later that night. I wanted MSG. I got it!

INfront Studio Profile with 21-19

We’ve just launched a new Studio Profile on INfront, this time with my old buddy, and INfront co-founder Domenic Bartolo from 21-19. Click here for the full feature. Dom’s such a passionate guy, it’s well worth the read.

Drive

SUGA and I went and saw Drive this afternoon. I liked it despite the shit ending. My review is on Zen.

Dayton’s S13

2-tone goodness.

Stripped out, how I love it.

Dayton our lovely beer man (he’s a brewer at The Malt Shovel Brewery) came around to Zen today in his rally prepped S13. I love cars like this, gets me excited. Although his visit was a few hours ago now, the all too familiar running rich fumes pouring out of his Kakimoto exhaust are still fresh in my mind. More on Zen Garage.

VWGolf.net.au Dinner Night

Half rack of ribs. Couldn’t commit to the full last night!

AP’s monster brake set-up.

RPRSNT!

Tendy’s new wheels. Love the scalloped spokes (lightweight look!).

SUGA’s twin turbo ride for the night.

Liking these Sparco wheels.

First Wednesday of every month is VWGolf.net.au’s dinner night and last night we hit the new Hurricanes at Top Ryde. I spent hours trying to find the meet location in the carpark, went up and up scraping my lip on everything getting to the top, but no-one was up there, luckily for me I ran into another member who was lost and together we finally found the group (modern day shopping mall carparks are hardcore!).

Lots of laughs as usual, ribs were over saturated with sauce I thought. Still good, but I’m officially a Kelly’s Grill ribs guy as of now. The meat is just better in quality. Way jucier & softer!

The Max

All big eyed and fluffed up in the morning.

Tough cnut Max. This was last night, he was sitting on the couch funny with his arms up on the couch armrests.

He’s 6-7 months old now? He’s heavy and his head is tiny, but his body is HUGE. He’s going to be a big boy!

Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance

Shame I couldn’t find a copy with the old cover design.

I failed to read Orwell’s 1984 again (have not read it since high school) so I picked up ‘Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance’ – a book that a fair few arty types were reading when I was studying design at College of Fine Arts many years ago.

I’m only a bit of the way in but I’m pretty hooked already. The guy’s very much in his head, rambles a lot and loves to psychoanalyse his mates. It’s a little annoying at times but I think I’ll stick with it, and see where it goes.
